Wildlife photo opportunities are abundant in Ruidoso so keep your camera handy! Deer and Bear are common sightings, especially in the Upper Canyon, but keep a sharp look out for Elk. Such big animals make for an exciting discovery, but they are wily! Hummingbirds and Turkey are also common to the area. Please watch for Deer on the road as they are everywhere and remember not to feed the bears.
NOTE: A fed bear is a dead bear. Bears are opportunists and once they understand that humans are a source of food after being fed by a person they will attempt to obtain more food from people. This leads to potentially dangerous interactions and results in euthanizing the bear. Not fair to see a bear put down because someone wants a photo op feeding a bear.
